Implementation of a new characteristic parameter into the IRI sub-peak electron density profile

Conference · · Adv. Space Res.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6399278

The model electron density profile of the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) is compared with the N(h) profile based on the data of vertical incidence sounding, and a way to improve the shape of the IRI profile is proposed. In particular, it is proposed that the height and electron density of the F region sub-peak inflection point be entered in the set of standard parameters. These parameters are determined from the main peak parameters of the ionosphere using simple relationships. A set of statistically representative data is presented to validate the approach proposed here.
