Electrocrystallization of zinc from concentrated zinc halide electrolytes

The zinc electrode is common to both zinc/chlorine and zinc/bromine batteries. Although considerable progress has been made in engineering these batteries, there are still problems with the zinc electrode. These are related to changes in zinc electrode morphology which result in dendritic growth and non adherent deposits. Theses problems are more severe under conditions of random shallow cycling. A study on the kinetics of zinc deposition from zinc chloride electrolytes is reported. (WHK)
