Removal of water blocks from oil and gas wells

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6396165
In a process for removing a water block, a driving fluid is forced through the annular section of a stratum containing the water block, around the producing well, to drive the water from the formation into the well. Packers are set in the annulus of the well opposite an upper and lower level of the formation. When the driving fluid is injected through the tubing, it passes into a lower section of the formation and drives the produced water into the well annulus above the upper packer. The driving fluid may also be injected from the annulus at a point above the upper packer and thus passes downward through the formation and forces the produced water to enter the well annulus below the lower packer.
