An EPRI seminar on data acquisition, control, and communication in power plants was hosted by Southern California Edison Company in San Diego, California from February 23--25, 1988. The seminar participants were from electric utilities, both foreign and domestic; architect engineering firms; computer equipment vendors; software companies and engineering consultants. The proceedings contain the text of the formal presentations. These presentations were grouped in the following seven technical sessions: general overview; technology and standards; communication networks; power plant data management; nuclear power applications; fossil power applications; future trends and research; and electrical systems. In addition to the formal presentations, there were also three working group sessions: communications networks, databases and data management, and data acquisition and control. The working group sessions were held to assess the need for future research projects in these areas. Individual papers have been cataloged separately.
