Experimentation in the Rice-Hardin (Grayburg) waterflood in Lea County, NM, has increased water injection into the low-permeability Grayburg formation while decreasing injection pressures. Chemical treatment of 2 injection wells improved injectivity by 30 to 40%. Injection pressures were lowered from 1500 psi to 1100 psi and water injection rose from an average of 244 bbl water/day to an average of 267 bbl water/day in one well and from 129 bbl water/day to 145 bbl water/day in the other.
