Title: Symposium on High Temperature Composites - Proceedings of the American Society for Composites, Dayton, OH, June 13-15, 1989

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6386304

The present conference on ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs) and metal-matrix composites (MMCs) discusses interfacial modification in graphite-reinforced Al MMCs, guided waves and defect scattering in MMC plates, interface development in SiC fiber-reinforced TiAl matrix composites, the microstructure and mechanical properties of high-temperature Al MMCs, the effect of a high-temperature cycle on the mechanical properties of SiC Ti MMCs, whisker coating for Al-matrix MMCs, elastic crack bridging in ceramic and intermetallic matrix composites, and thermal stresses in coated-fiber composites. Also discussed are the high-temperature fatigue of SiC fiber-reinforced Si{sub 3}N{sub 4} CMCs, a microlaminate effect in brittle-matrix composites, the micromechanics of three-dimensionally braided hybrid MMCs, the correlation of NDE results for MMC and C-C composites, the effects of crimp angle on the tensile strength of a C-C laminate, and the characterization of damage initiation in three-point bend specimens of an advanced woven C-C material.
