Technical feature:Though such methods are environmentally and esthetically damaging, the USFS and the forestry profession continue to favor clearcutting of hardwoods and even-aged forest management as the dominant harvesting techniques. Clearcutting and even-aged forest management also clearly violate the Nat'l Forest Management Act of 1976. Examined are methods of implementing techniques for better forest management, including: combination heavy improvement cutting; harvesting of high risk and low quality trees; and group selection silvicultural operation.
