A method of propping fractures in an oil or gas producing formation consists of introducing into the fracture a carrier fluid containing a suspension of flat, generally disk-shaped particles of a manufactured, formable material. This material is capable of supporting a load in excess of about 40 lb per particle without fragmentation. The particles have a major dimension which is substantially greater than their thickness.
