The effects of molybdenum and vanadium on sulfide stress cracking (SSC) and yield strength of SAE 4135 type steel was studied. SSC resistance increases with increasing Mo content until it reaches a maximum at about 0.75 to 0.90% Mo. The addition of v provides little if any practical benefit. (FS)
