The method of calculation of the electron (antineutrino) energy spectra emitted by fission products in equilibrium is described. The calculation is performed for the spontaneous fission of /sup 252/Cf. The resulting distributions are considerably softer than those of /sup 235/U and /sup 239/Pu with thermal neutron fission and the distribution of /sup 238/U corresponding to fission by the fission neutron spectrum. Using the latest data on fission yields and decay schemes of fission fragments we calculate the average number of beta particles emitted per fission for the above nuclei and obtain: 6.0 +- 0.1(/sup 235/U), 7.1 +- 0.1(/sup 238/U), 5.4 +- 0.1(/sup 239/Pu), 5.8 +- 0.2(/sup 252/Cf), and also 6.2 +- 0.1(/sup 241/Pu), and 5.2 +- 0.1(/sup 233/U) where the last two numbers correspond to thermal-neutron fission. It is shown that the beta spectra of fissile nuclei are correlated. The relations found allow one to predict in a qualitative way the shape of the electron (antineutrino) spectra and their average number per fission.
