Helios spacecraft and earth-perspective observations of three looplike solar mass-ejection transients

Three looplike mass-ejection transients observed from earth with the SOLWIND coronagraph and the solar-maximum mission coronagraph are imaged by Helios spacecraft zodiacal light photometers. Because the Helios spacecraft are not earth orbiting, views of these ejections from the two perspectives allow conclusions to be drawn about their three-dimensional shapes. The mass ejection of May 24, 1979, in Helios data is concentrated in an outer structure followed by bright features separated by a region of depleted material. The ejections of June 18 and 29, 1980, appear restricted in position angle in Helios observations to less and the same, respectively, as in coronagraph observations. The observations imply that the ejections essentially retain their basic structure and speed out ot heights (O.2-O.4 AU) observed by the Helios spacecraft.
