Energy in municipal-wastewater treatment: an energy-audit procedure and supporting data base. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6378905
EPA regulations require a methodology for determining energy requirements of municipal wastewater treatment because treatment-plant construction and operation consume significant amounts of energy. Energy is a major driver of both operating and capital costs. In addition, most of the energy consumed is drawn from irreplaceable natural resources. In recognition of these factors, EPA requires analysis of the energy effectiveness of alternative types of wastewater treatment. The purpose of this project was to develop appropriate procedures to perform this analysis.
