Contract No. EF-77-C-01-2542 between Conoco Inc. and the US Department of Energy provides for the design, construction and operation of a demonstration plant capable of processing bituminous caking coals into clean pipeline quality gas. The project is currently in the design phase (Phase I), scheduled to be completed in June 1981. Task X in Phase I requires the identification of long lead time items and submission of a schedule for their procurement. It has been determined that there are no items requiring procurement procedures prior to Phase II. Further, there are no items for which detailed engineering must be completed in Phase I to prevent a negative impact on the Phase II, Demonstration Plant Construction schedule. Placement of purchase orders at an early stage in Phase II is critical for some equipment because vendor drawings for these pieces of equipment are necessary before detailed design/drafting can be completed.
