Canadian coal situation - 1981

Journal Article · · World Coal; (United States)
OSTI ID:6373648
Canadian coal resources are in a reasonable position for export, but rather poorly located to serve the main regions of domestic demand, which are in Ontario. As a result, coal is exported from the east and west coasts of Canada and imported from the United States into Ontario. In 1980, total coal production reached about 36,420,000 tons; estimated production later in the 1980's will be about 60,000,000 to 70,000,000 tons per year. Three main types of coal are produced in Canada: bituminous, sub-bituminous coal and lignite reserves of the western provinces are used exclusively to supply mine-mouth power plants.
