Control of fluorine scorch of gladiolus with foliar dusts and sprays

Journal Article · · Proc. Am. Soc. Hortic. Sci.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6372119
Data are presented to show that the scorch of gladiolus caused by atmospheric fluoric effluents was markedly decreased with the application of several alkaline dusts and sprays. Sprays were more effective in controlling the scorch than were dusts. Of the materials used, lime was the most effective in controlling scorch. Chemical analyses showed that the lime absorbed considerable quantities of fluorine. The amount of fluorine in the plant tissue was markedly less as effectiveness of the sprays and dusts in controlling scorch increased. 6 references, 2 figures, 3 tables.
