Development of a remote inspection robot and camera positoners for reactor tank inspection

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6370617
The Equipment Engineering Division of the Savannah River Laboratory has developed an integrated system of special purpose robots, camera positioners, nondestructive evaluation (NDE) data acquisition and analysis instrumentation, electronic controls, and auxiliary hardware to perform remote ultrasonic and eddy current inspections inside the Savannah River Plant's nuclear reactor tanks. This paper presents the mechanical development of the remote inspection robot and camera positioner. The robot utilizes six degrees-of-freedom to precisely position various NDE sensors while scanning the inside wall of the reactor tank. The 3-axis camera positioners provide high-resolution views of the inspection activities. 6 figs.
