Research report:Various vegetables, grains, and forage crops were grown in the field on soil amended with flyash, a by-product of coal burning in electric generating stations. Fly ashes contain a wide spectrum of elements, both essential and toxic. Forty-one elements were determined in alfalfa, birdsfoot, trefoil, brome, field corn, millet, orchard grass, sorghum, timothy, beans, cabbage, carrots, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes. Concentrations of arsenic, boron, magnesium, and selenium were greater in crops grown on flyash-amended soil than in control crops grown on soil not amended with flyash. (2 tables)
