Non-seismic methods: a key to integrated exploration
Non-seismic geophysical methods, such as Landsat, gravity and magnetics (as discussed herein), comprise a part of the total set of tools to be used by the explorationist today. To be a complete explorationist, an individual should have a working knowledge of these tools. Much has been said and written on synergistic techniques in exploration, but nowhere is this more important than when dealing with the non-seismic geophysical fields. None of these has quite the specific trap definition capabilities that high resolution seismic ''brightspots'' have, but the conditions under which brightspot technology can be used are extremely limited. For instance, almost all onshore wildcats are drilled without the use of this technology. Thus there is special need, recognized by both majors and independents alike, to use several exploration techniques that overlap and augment each other.
