A process is described for isomerizing isomerizable hydrocarbons which comprises contacting the isomerizable hydrocarbons in the presence of hydrogen at isomerization conditions with a catalyst composition consisting of a Group VIII metal, hydrogen form mordenite and refractory inorganic oxide, with the catalytic composition having a surface area of at least 580 m/sup 2//g.
