Radiolysis of mixtures of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide

Journal Article · · High Energy Chem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6364085

The radiolysis of CO/sub 2/-H/sub 2/S mixtures (5-50 vol. %) was investigated. It was shown that H/sub 2/S is an efficient scavenger of the oxygen formed during the radiolysis of CO/sub 2/. It was established that in the radiolysis of CO/sub 2/-H/sub 2/S mixtures (25-50 vol %) the nature of the products formed depends on the temperature during irradiation: At room temperature the main products are carbon oxysulfide (SCO) and hydrogen; increasing the temperature to 200/sup 0/C leads to the production of synthesis gas (H/sub 2/ + CO) and elemental sulfur. The total yield of radiolysis products amounts to 9.2-14.4 molecules per 100 eV.
