The analyzing power in ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup 0/n has been measured at 547, 586, 625, 657, and 687 MeV/c. The experiment made use of counters and chambers to detect the recoil neutrons in coincidence with one of the photons from the decay of the scattered ..pi../sup 0/. A uniform angular distribution covering the interval -0.9 less than or equal to cos theta/sub cm/ less than or equal to +0.9 was measured for nine or ten points simultaneously at each momentum. The results have a statistical uncertainty as low as 0.03 in the forward direction, higher in the backward direction, and a systematic uncertainty of 3%. A comparison is made with the predictions of three recent partial wave analyses (PWA's); none of the PWA's is consistent with the measured distribution at 687 MeV/c. The transversity up and transversity down cross sections are calculated and used to test isospin symmetry in the ..pi..N system. No evidence for a violation of isospin is found.
