It is demonstrated that existing {ital np}{r arrow}{ital dX} data show a strong signal for the two-body reaction {ital np}{r arrow}{ital d}{eta} near its threshold. The cross sectio n is much larger than that for the analogous {pi}{sup 0} threshold production, but is in accord with a model where production is dominated by the {ital S}{sub 11} {ital N}{sup *}(1535) resonance. The Abashian-Both-Crowe enhancement {ital X}{sub ABC} is a prominent feature of the data. It is shown that the {ital np}{r arrow}{ital dX}{sub ABC} process at 1.9 GeV/{ital c}, which contains most of the 2{pi} production, is almost isotropic, in constrast to theoretical models.
