Method of constructing a low temperature liquefied gas tank of a membrane type

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6359733
Bridgestone Liquefied Gas Co., Ltd.'s new method of LNG tank construction avoids corrugations or convexed and concaved portions of the inner membrane tank. The outer and inner tanks are constructed separately, then the inner tank is positioned inside the outer one. The flat sidewalls of the inner tank are urged toward the inside of the inner tank so as to form a marginal slack corresponding to the contraction of the inner membrane tank at low-temperature conditions of operation. The space between the 2 tanks is filled with compression-resistant heat-insulating material, while maintaining the inwardly urged condition.
