The use of heat-resistant concrete blocks made with alumina and high alumina cements and chamotte filler to line the doors of coke ovens is rather effective: the mean service life of the lining with a lateral gap of 20 mm is 2 to 3 years, and over 3 years with a lateral gap of 50 mm. With a lateral gap in the high temperature zone of 50 mm the service life of the refinforced and unreinforced lining is over 3 years under the conditions of the Kharkov Coke Works. Considering the simplicity of manufacture of the unreinforced blocks and the possibility of reuse of the material to line coke oven doors, the unreinforced block lining should be used, making the lateral gap 50 mm in size at the working end.
