Experience with Willis choke valves

The model M1HT valve manufactured by the Willis Oil Tool Company has been successfully used in wells producing crude oil and raw natural gas and in some coal gasification plants. In coal liquefaction pilot plants, this type of valve also has met with some success as a block valve, but in situations requiring a flow throttling action, it has not performed well. Experiences with these choked disc valves at the Fort Lewis SRC Pilot Plant and at the H-Coal Pilot Plant are presented in an attempt to provide some reasons for their poorer performance in letdown service. 1 figure.
