Design and use of density gauges for fossil-energy processes. [Catalyst level detector]

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6356448
A density gauge has been designed to function as a catalyst level detector in the H-Coal 1 in. h Bench Reactor. The system utilizes a /sup 137/Cs source and a BiGe scintillator as a detector. The source/detector systems are encompassed in a yoke which can be maneuvered over approx. 1/3 of the reactor height. Both catalyst level and bed uniformity can be measured. The system, as tested, can distinguish coal slurry and roughly 5% catalyst by volume.
