Plate condenser to solidify phthalic anhydride

A description of the design and operation of a plate condenser used for the solidification of phthalic anhydride was presented. Some of the problems of the use of conventional tube-type exchangers were detailed. The new exchanger employed packing in the form of removable sections of hollow flat panels which improved service conditions and heat transfer efficiency. It was concluded that the melted phthalic anhydride contained less than 5% phthalic acid and had no significant corrosive effects.
