Multi-grid solution of the pressure equation in reservoir simulation. [Incomplete Cholesky Conjugate Gradient (ICCG), Modified Incomplete Cholesky Conjugate Gradient (MICCG), ORTHOMIN]
The multi-grid technique is compared with ICCG (Incomplete Cholesky Conjugate Gradient)/MICCG (Modified ICCG) methods for solving pressure equations. The numerical results of several test problems with widely varying transmissibilites are presented The multi-grid algorithm is enhanced by pattern relaxation and acceleration. Optimization of the ICCG/MICCG algorithms is investigated by high order (up to tenth) decompositions and different ordering schemes. For large problems the multi-grid method is superior in terms of scalar work. The multi-grid scheme can also be highly vectorized. Some preliminary results of the multi-grid method applied to non-symmetric problems are also presented. 27 refs.
