MTBE - the feedstock makes the difference

Conference · · Natl. Pet. Refiners Assoc., (Tech. Pap.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6353577

The economics is discussed for producing methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE) from stream cracker C/sub 4/'s cat cracker C/sub 4/'s, and butanes within the framework of the 1980's octane supply/demand situation. Graphical correlations are presented showing the value of isobutylene in a MTBE feedstock as a function of feedstock isobutylene concentration, MTBE plant capacity, and MTBE unit isobutylene conversion level. Economic case studies have been prepared for the production of MTBE from all the feedstocks based on a simple ''simple'' return-on-investment method. 5 refs.
