Point defects formed in B3 type intermetallic compounds are well established to sensitively affect the various material`s properties. For example, the microhardness in B2 FeAl alloys shows a drastic change depending on their heat treatments, which is well known as the retained vacancy hardening effect. Thus, it is very important to determine the point defect behavior as a function of temperature and of composition. In this paper, the authors report the results of point defect structure in B2 FeAl alloys quenched from different temperatures (773 to 1173 K) by means of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) method.
