The economics of proliferation and counterproliferation
On June 2, 1993, the fourth meeting of the seminar series on [open quotes]Proliferation of Ballistic Missiles and Weapons of Mass Destruction and Implications for Regional Stability[close quotes] was held at SAIC in McLean, Virginia. This series is sponsored by the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency and is cosponsored by the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, the Defense Nuclear Agency, the Department of Energy, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy. The June seminar, [open quotes]The Economics of Proliferation and Counterproliferation,[close quotes] discussed how economic issues and interests affect proliferation judgments. Seminar participants also examined three economic tools for advancing counterproliferation objectives: Economic Development Assistance, Export Controls, and Economic [open quotes]Burdensharing[close quotes] and Conversion Assistance.
