Oil production with steam
In a method and apparatus for operating the huff-and-puff steam process without removing and replacing the downhole pump and rod string, steam is injected through a tubing string into the oil-bearing strata. The injection of steam through the tubing is then terminated and the tubing is opened for the production of oil. Steam is injected into the annulus between the tubing and casing and admitted from the annulus to the tubing string to cause oil to rise in the tubing, aerate the oil, and gas-lift the oil through the tubing string. A series of gas-lift valves are placed in special tubing collars as the tubing is run and are placed several hundred feet apart toward the lower end of the tubing string below the static fluid level. After flow has been established, pressure conditions are such that the valves remain closed and all steam flows to the bottom of the tubing string before mixing with the ascending streams of liquid and vaporous oil.
