Florida Solar Energy Center's (FSEC) PV Trainer is a complete stand-alone solar electric system that lends itself to many applications. Industry people like the attractive compact kit because it is self-contained, fully portable and demonstrates how simple solar electric systems operate. The Portable PV Trainer helps students observe and interact with a working photovoltaic system. It is primarily used in conjunction with the lab for charge controllers. In this lab, the student compares a charge controller's set points with the predetermined points set by the manufacturer. The PV Trainer also serves as an excellent solar demonstration. Actual loads such as fans, lights and small water pumps may be operated from the trainer. FSEC's PV Trainer can be used for monitoring and measuring: battery voltage, PV module voltage, PV module current, controller functions, current voltage curves, and operation of most 12 volt loads.
