Producing nanosecond and subnanosecond laser pulses with fast shutters

This paper describes a system for producing nanosecond and subnanosecond light pulses from the radiation from a single-pulse neodymium laser by the use of fast shutters based on DKDP crystals and a multiple-mirror Fabry-Perot interferometer. The system enables one to produce laser pulses with a programmed intensity variation and a sharpening time of 250 psec, which can be used as a master oscillator for a high-power laser system for experiments on fusion.
