Patent ·
OSTI ID:6341682
This patent describes a method of preparing a rare earth-iron-boron permanent magnet containing aluminum and added rare earth oxide. It comprises: mixing a particulate alloy, containing at least one rare earth metal, iron, and boron, with particulate aluminum and about 0.5 to about 10 weight percent of particulate rare earth oxide, calculated by weight of the particulate alloy; aligning magnetic domains of the mixture in a magnetic field; compacting the aligned mixture to form a shape; and sintering the compacted shape. The permanent magnet comprises a rare earth metal, iron, boron, added rare earth oxide and about 0.05 to about 1.0 percent by weight of aluminum.
