This guide addresses the use of a solar energy system to heat the water used in a home - either for a new home or to be installed (or retrofitted) in an existing home. A general understanding of solar energy and the various types of systems used to provide solar heated water, a method to estimate the costs and potential savings from using such systems, and how to select a specific system and choose the best way to have it installed are discussed. The guide stresses the importance of proper installation. Some technical information on system efficiencies has been included as an appendix.
