A combination bronze-in situ process for preparation of superconducting wire

Conference · · IEEE Trans. Magn.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6340198
Superconducting Nb/sub 3/Sn-Cu wire has been prepared by placing rods of Cu-60 wt.% Nb in situ material in a bronze matrix and reducing to wire. The J /SUB C/ values of the wire are lower than that of commercial bronze processed wire by a factor of 2, which is consistent with the fact that the Br/Nb ratio is higher then commercial wires by roughly a factor of 2. It is anticipated that these bronze-in situ wires may display smaller degradation of J /SUB C/ with mechanical strain than conventional bronze processed wire.
