A model of real superconducting point contacts is proposed based on the experimental studies of superconducting point contact properties in the resistance range 10/sup 5/--10/sup -1/ ..cap omega.. and on a comparison with the structural properties of the contacts. According to this model, the contact is a parallel connection of a tunnel junction whose conductivity is due to quasiparticles, and a microshort jumper with Josephson properties. Within the framework of the proposed model, good agreement is obtained between the experimental and theoretical temperature dependences of the contact's critical current, and the observed dependence of the contact characteristic voltage V/sub C/ on the contact resistance is explained.
