Ethylene in IRC+10216

Journal Article · · Astrophys. J., Lett. Ed.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1086/183490· OSTI ID:6335660
Ethylene has been detected in the circumstellar gas surrounding the supergiant star IRC+10216. Two lines of the ..nu../sub 7/ vibration-rotation band near 28 THz (949 cm/sup -1/) have been seen in absorption at an expansion velocity of 14 km s/sup -1/ relative to the central star. The line intensities indicate a rotational temperature of T>400 K and a radial C/sub 2/H/sub 4/ column density of 10/sup 16/ to 10/sup 17/ cm/sup -2/.
