Structure of high-spin proton states in /sup 208/Pb

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
A recent experimental work on the spreading of spectroscopic strengths of unbound 1j/sub 15/2/ and 1i/sub 11/2/ proton states in /sup 208/Pb is examined in terms of the coupling of proton states with the eight collective surface vibration states of /sup 208/Pb. The coupling strengths are estimated with the help of an optimized Saxon-Woods potential. Good agreement is observed between the calculated and observed discrete spectra. Influence of 1i/sub 13/2/ and 2g/sub 9/2/ states on the observed spectrum is emphasized.
