The author reports here for the first time an important temperature-dependent positive dielectric anisotropy of a columnar mesophase constituted of disklike molecules ((C{sub 12}O){sub 8}Pc){sub 2}Lu oriented with a magnetic field. The measured anisotropies are as high as 4.5 and approximately 10 for the dielectric constant and conductivity, respectively. The origin of the high dielectric anisotropy may be understood by considering an intracolumnar charge carrier transport which results in an important induced dipolar moment along the columnar axis.
