Spectral and radiation parameters of chemiluminescence have been measured in the thermal decomposition of methyl nitrite and methyl nitrate in shock waves. It has been established that the emission spectrum corresponds to the chemiluminescence spectrum in the process of radiation-induced disproportionation of CH/sub 3/O radicals; the mean radiation rate constant for the 400-500 nm section on the spectrum is 10/sup 7/ cm/sup 3//mole x sec. A simple method has been developed for measuring the absolute concentration of CH/sub 3/O radicals. Rate constants have been measured for the decomposition of CH/sub 3/O and for bimolecular reactions of CH/sub 3/O radicals with molecules of O/sub 2/, NO, methyl nitrite, and methyl nitrate. An estimate is given for the rate constant of the reaction of CH/sub 3/O with NO/sub 2/ and CH/sub 4/.
