Collective properties of the odd-mass Cs nuclei. II. /sup 119,121,123,125/Cs

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Using the techniques of in-beam ..gamma..-ray spectroscopy, in high-spin states in the odd-mass /sup 119en-dash125/Cs have been studied via the /sup 106/Cd(/sup 16/O,p2n)/sup 119/Cs, /sup 110en-dash114/Cd(/sup 14/N,3n)/sup 121en-dash125/Cs, and /sup 116,118/Sn(/sup 10/B,3n)/sup 123,125/Cs reactions on enriched, self-supporting targets. Two distinct collective features are observed in the resulting level schemes: ..delta..J = 2 bands built on the 11/2/sup -/ (1h/sub 11/2/ quasiproton) states, and ..delta..J = 1 bands built on the 9/2/sup +/ (1g/sub 9/2/ proton-hole) states. The 9/2/sup +/ bandheads, believed to result from the excitation of the 1g/sub 9/2/ proton across the Z = 50 closed shell, are observed at surprisingly low energies, becoming the ground state in /sup 119/Cs. The systematics of the 9/2/sup +/ ..delta..J = 1 bands are presented and discussed in terms of the particle-plus-rotor and particle-plus-vibrator models. A deformed structure relationship between the excitation of a 1g/sub 9/2/ proton and the excitation of a pair of 1g/sub 9/2/ protons across the Z = 50 closed shell is discussed.
