RP for on-bottom stability design of subsea pipelines

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6331007
The first design recommended practice (RP) for offshore pipelines which accepts the possibility of movement of untrenched pipelines on the seabed has been issued by Veritas Offshore Technology and Services A/S (Veritec), Hovik, Norway. The main objectives of this RP, according to Veritec, are to make the latest state-of-the-art information on pipeline stability available for use in the design of pipelines and to provide a framework from which stability design methods can be further developed as more information becomes available. The RP is mainly based on results from the pipeline-stability project run by Statoil and Esso Norge from 1983-1987. The design methods presented relate to a pipeline resting on the seabed throughout its lifetime or to conditions prior to another form of stabilization such as trenching, burial, etc.
