Catalytic fluid heater

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6328192
IGT's new self-igniting catalytic fluid heater (fueled with hydrogen, reformed natural gas, or low-carbon monoxide-content manufactured gas) requires no venting since the combustion products are innocuous. Suitable for residential use, the water heater is formed of a number of nested fluid-heating chambers spaced from one another to provide a heating zone having a chimney effect, causing the mixture of fuel gas and air to flow through the heating zone from the bottom to the top. The walls of the catalytic heating zones are coated with a noble-metal catalyst.
