The peak effect in single crystals of the superconductor Ca{sub 3}Rh{sub 4}Sn{sub 13} has been investigated by dc magnetization, ac susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and critical current measurements in applied magnetic fields. The transition from a weakly pinned region to a strongly pinned region is mapped out in the H-T phase diagram. The results on the superconducting stannides, Ca{sub 3}Rh{sub 4}Sn{sub 13} and Yb{sub 3}Rh{sub 4}Sn{sub 13}, are found to be similar to that obtained on some heavy fermion and intermediate valence superconductors. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}
