DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6325410· OSTI ID:6325410

An active solar energy system consisting of 950 square feet of flat-plate collectors, gas-fired auxiliary boilers, and 2000 gallons of storage is designed to supply 46% of the heating load and 37% of the hot water load for an apartment complex. The solar fractions actually achieved were 11% for heating and 44% for hot water. Other measures of performance are given, including solar savings ratio, conventional fuel savings, system performance factor, and solar system coefficient of performance. The performance of the collector, storage, space heating and domestic hot water subsystems are discussed. The operating energy of the system and weather data are given. (LEW)
