Suitability of tankers for floating production systems in hostile environments

Conference · · Proc., Annu. Offshore Technol. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6324858
This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of semisubmersibles and large tankers (150,000 to 250,000 DWT) when used as floating production and storage systems. Primary technical considerations which are discussed include: 1. Mooring Loads 2. Production Risers 3. Vessel Motions 4. Crude Storage and Offloading 5. System Reliability 6. Field Shut-In Parameters 7. Capital Expenditures 8. Lead Times The data included is based on computer simulation, model tests, and industry successes in meeting similar challenges.
