Effect of counterions on coacervation and solubilization in oil-external and middle-phase microemulsions

Journal Article · · J. Colloid Interface Sci.; (United States)

The effect of hydrated radii, valency and concentration of counterions on 3 phenomena (coacervation of aqueous surfactant solutions, solubilization capacity of oil-external microemulsions, and solubilization in middle-phase microemulsions) was reported. The electrolytes LiCl, NaCl, KCl, NH/sub 4/Cl, and CaCl/sub 2/ were used. It was concluded that the middle-phase microemulsion behaves like a water-continuous system with respect to the effect of counterions. 32 references.
