In ..pi../sup -/p interactions at 40 GeV/c we have studied the dependence of the charge asymmetry in the central region on the magnitude of the transverse momentum of the secondary particles and the multiplicity of the secondary particles in the event. It is shown that the charge asymmetry increases with increase of the transverse momentum of the secondary particles and falls off with increase of the number of charged particles in the event. The results obtained are interpreted from the point of view of the parton model.
